Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C) is defined as all procedures that involve the partial or total removal of the external female-assigned genitalia, or other injury to the female-assigned genital organs, for non-medical reasons.
I am proud to be a member of the FGM/C Washington State Prevention and Response Coalition, a collaborative effort led by the Washington State Department of Health in partnership with Mother Africa. In 2023, Washington State enacted legislation making FGM/C illegal, becoming the 41st state to ban this harmful practice.
I am a healthcare provider who specializes in caring for women impacted by FGM/C. The following document was developed by me to support providers in assessing and caring for pregnant women who have undergone FGM/C.
